In Assam, the 4.5 km long India-Bangladesh border in Southern Assam's Karimganj town area will be single-fenced, said BSF director general K K Sharma in Silchar.<br/><br/>During his visit, the BSF chief informed that the international border along Karimganj on the banks of the Kushiyara will be fenced soon.<br/><br/>The Karimganj sector has a 92-km border with Bangladesh of which 41 km is reverine. Many areas of the international border are porous as some areas are yet to be fenced.<br/><br/>The BSF chief, along with other senior officials of the border force, inspected the international border by a motor boat. He later had a meeting with senior officials at to review the situation along the border.<br/><br/>The BSF chief's visit is significant as it comes at a time when both the Centre and the state government have announced that Assam's border with Bangladesh will be sealed within one year.
