In order to deal with credit risks, RBI has decided to create a central repository on large credits. In a notification issued from Mumbai, RBI has said that the repository will have data about borrowers, individuals as well as entities that have an exposure of more than 10 crore rupees. RBI has added that it will share the data with all banks thus enabling them to be aware of building leverage and common exposures. In his inaugural speech, the newly appointed RBI governor Raghuram Rajan had said that the central bank proposes to collect credit data and examine large common exposures across banks. RBI has asked banks to take utmost care about the accuracy and integrity of the data that is submitted, failing which penal action would be undertaken.
