Indirect tax collection up by over 37% in May: Arun Jaitley

The indirect tax revenue collection has gone up by over 37 per cent in May this year against the same period in last year. Giving data on the progress of tax collection, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told reporters in New Delhi that the cumulative growth of indirect tax collection in April and May grew by over 39 per cent as compared to same period of last year. He said, the increase is due to the additional cess imposed on petrol, diesel and clean energy. Mr Jaitley said, it is a very healthy growth in indirect tax collection which spreads over all the sectors. Mr Jaitley also said, the growth in indirect tax collection indicates that manufacturing sector has picked up.According to an official release, indirect tax revenue collections has increased from Rs 36,408 crore in May, 2014 to Rs 49,993 crore during May this year. It also said, the overall, indirect tax collections during April to May has gone up to Rs 96,128 crore which was Rs 69,069 crore during the same period of last year.
