Indira Gandhi National Service Scheme Awards were today presented at a function in New Delhi. The awards are given every year in recognition of voluntary services rendered by volunteers, programme officers and NSS Units besides at the University level. The highest award of two lakh rupees was bagged by Deen Dayal Uphadhyay Gorakhpur University. Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mr. Pratik Prakash Patil urged the volunteers to come up with innovative ideas to transform the society. Hailing their contribution in preservation and protection of ecology and environment, he said six thousand NSS volunteers have been selected to render their services in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.
