A full fledged cultural Centre of the Indian Council of Cultural relations called Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre was inaugurated in Dhaka today. Addressing a gathering at the inaugural ceremony, ICCR President Dr. Karan Singh said the centre was a tribute to both Indira Gandhi and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rehman who played crucial roles in the liberation of Bangladesh but later fell prey to the bullets of assassins. He hoped that the centre will play a crucial role in strengthening cultural relations between the two countries. The Information and Culture Affairs Minister of Bangladesh Mr. Abul Kalam Azad said that both India and Bangladesh have rejected terrorism and extremism and are committed to strengthening the forces of democracy and moderation. He said the Cultural Exchange agreement signed during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in January this year has opened up new opportunities for the art and culture fraternity of both the countries and will help in strengthening people to people contact between the two nations.
