The Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration, 2009 has been conferred upon Oscar winning singer and music director A R Rahman. A statement issued in New Delhi said that the Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Narrainpur, Chhattisgarh, has also been chosen for the 25th award jointly with Rahman. Congress President Sonia Gandhi will give the awards on October 31, the martyrdom day of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The award consists of a citation and cash of 2.5 lakh rupees. The earlier recipients of the award include Aruna Asaf Ali, Shankar Dayal Sharma, Javed Akhtar and A P J Abdul Kalam.
