Indigenous Automatic Train Protection System 'Kavach' to be progressively taken up to cover entire network of Railways: Govt

<span style="color: #222222;">Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that the indigenous Automatic Train Protection System, Kavach, developed by the Indian Railways along with three other firms, will be progressively taken up to cover the entire network of Indian Railways. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the Union Minister said Kavach has been deployed on 1,445 route kilometres of South Central Railway on Bidar-Parbhani and Manmad-Parbhani-Guntakal sections. The Railways has also taken up the deployment of Kavach on approximately 3,000 route kms of Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah corridors, for which tenders are under evaluation. He said, more than 35,000 route kms on High Density Network or Highly Utilized Network routes have been included in the works programme of the last two years.<br />''<br />''Kavach helps to prevent accidents due to human error resulting in signal passing at danger and overspeeding, by automatic application of brakes.<br />''<br />''The Minister said, India is one of the few countries in the world who have developed its own train protection technology. Kavach has been certified for the highest level of Safety Integrity Level (SIL-4) by the Independent Safety Assessor and has the potential for adoption by other countries.</span><br />
