India's wholesale inflation rate rises to 3.55%

Wholesale inflation rose to a 23-month high of 3.55 per cent in July this year, as vegetables, pulses and sugar became costlier. Wholesale price-based inflation had stood at 1.62 per cent in June this year, and at minus 4 per cent in July last year.According to Commerce Ministry data, wholesale inflation in vegetables surged to 28.05 per cent in July, and in pulses to 35.76 per cent. Inflation in potatoes was 58.78 per cent.Wholesale inflation in sugar was 32.33 per cent, and in fruits 17.3 per cent.Overall food inflation stood a 11.82 per cent in July. However, a deflationary trend continued in some items, like onions, at minus 36.29 per cent, and petrol, at minus 10.3 per cent. Inflation in manufactured articles was 1.83 per cent in July. Wholesale inflation for May has been revised upwards to 1.24 per cent, from the earlier estimate of 0.79 per cent.
