India's trade deficit has gone up from 36.57 billion dollars in 2011-12 to 38.66 billion dollars in 2012-13. This information was given in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Dr E M S Natchiappan. He said, with a view to reducing the trade deficit with China, efforts are being made to diversify the trade basket with emphasis on manufactured goods. The Minister said, the government is also pursuing market access issues to tackle non-tariff barriers in the Chinese market at different forums.
