India has successfully test-fired nuclear-capable Agni-V Inter- Continental Ballistic Missile, ICBM, with a striking range of over 5000 km.
The surface-to-surface Agni-V was launched from a mobile platform from the Wheeler Island off the Odisha coast yesterday. With this India has joined the elite group of USA, Russia, China, France and Britain in this capability.
Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister and Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO Chief V.K. Saraswat has called the missile a gamechanger that can perform different roles.
It can carry multiple warheads providing anti-satellite capability as well as launching tiny satellites into orbit. Dr. Saraswat said the production of the weapon system will start in a year's time.
