In India Open Badminton, India's Subhankar Dey produced a big upset in New Delhi on Wednesday by knocking out fourth seed Indonesian Tommy Sugiarto.
Unseeded Subhankar, who is ranked 44th in the world, eked out a 14-21, 22-20, 21-11 win over world number nine Sugiarto to join a number of Indians, including Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy and B Sai Praneeth, in the Men's Singles pre-quarterfinals.
Former champion Srikanth recorded his fourth successive win over Hong Kong's Wong Wing Ki Vincent with a 21-16, 18-21, 21-19 victory.
In Women's Singles, PV Sindhu, who reached the finals in the last two editions and won the title in 2017, brushed aside fellow Indian Mugdha Agrey 21-8, 21-13 to enter the Round-of-16. Riya Mookerjee also progressed.
Indian shuttlers also made it to the second round in Men's, Women's and Mixed Doubles categories.
