India’s rise has added to confidence & strength of all developing countries: Jiabao

The Chinese Premier says that the rise of India has added to the confidence and strength of all developing countries, including China. In his address on India China relations in New Delhi on Thursday, he said that the rise has caught the attention of whole world including Beijing. He added that there is enough space for India and China to grow and a closer cooperation between fast growing economies can have a bearing on international affairs. Premier Wen Jiabao said that Beijing believes priority should be given to increasing representation of developing countries in the UN Security Council. With out qualifying its support for India's bid for a seat in reformed UN Security Council he added that New Delhi can play an increasingly important role in international affairs. Admitting that the boundary question will take time for resolution, the Chinese Premier called for maintaining peace and tranquility at the border and create trust and confidence to resolve complex issues. Tracing the historical ties between the two countries, Wen Jiabao said that he had free, frank and candid discussions with Dr. Singh and the two leaders have decided to have regular high-level contacts to provide political guidance for stronger political and strategic partnership. Talking about the growing economic ties between the two countries, he said business deals worth sixteen billion dollars were signed during his visit. The Chinese Premier asserted that to address the concerns of growing trade deficit of India, China has decided to give greater access to Indians in the areas of IT, Pharma and Farm Produce sectors. They have also decided to initiate discussions on regional trade arrangement. Our correspondent reports, in his about 40-minute address the Chinese Premier sent a loud message acknowledging the rise of India at the global stage and at the same time made it clear that some bilateral issues of contention need to be tackled with patience. In his opening remarks the External Affairs Minister Mr. S. M. Krishna said that India and China see no contradiction in each other's rise. He expressed confidence that the two countries will jointly write a brighter chapter of the history. Mr. Krishna asserted that the two countries have the maturity and wisdom to deal with any differences through dialogue and diplomacy. He said, India and China have an abiding commitment to the Panchsheel principles and realize the importance of mutual sensitivity to each other’s core concerns and interests.
