India's monsoon deficiency has dropped by 3%: IMD

The overall monsoon deficiency has now dropped by 3 per cent which was around 16 per cent until last week. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), widespread rainfall in states like Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra has reduced the overall monsoon deficiency to 13 per cent in the country, although several parts are still reeling under acute water shortage. <br/><br/>The east and northeast India has witnessed a deficiency of 7%, followed by 13% in Central India. The southern peninsula has recorded a deficiency of 15% while the northwest is staring at a deficiency of 19%, which is highest in the country.'<br/><br/>The low pressure area, which became a deep depression traveled across Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat gave good amounts of rain in Central India. Weathermen said extreme southern peninsula which includes Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala may expect some good showers in next 48 hours.
