Science and Technology Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said that India's medical technology is fourth largest in Asia and by 2025 it will be worth 20 billion dollars. Addressing a press conference on Med-Tech Innovation for Make-in-India in New Delhi today, Dr Vardhan said, India will Capture 10 per cent of Global Medical Technology Market by 2025. <br/><br/>He said, innovation in health care and medical technology is especially of paramount importance and can accelerate the country's social and economic growth. He said, the benefits of the innovation should reach the masses. He said, Make in India initiative led by Prime Minister aims to transform the country and propel the country to greater heights.<br/><br/>During the briefing, several low-cost medical innovations including home kits for measuring blood glucose, hemoglobin levels and real-time diagnosis of malaria and dengue were showcased. The innovations have been developed by the Centre's Department of Biotechnology as well as by start-ups supported by the government. <br/><br/>One of the device AINA, which was showcased in the presentation made by Department of Bio Technology Secretary, Dr Vijay Raghvan, can be fixed to a mobile phone and one can know the blood glucose, lipids, criateinine and hemoglobin levels. One just needs to insert a strip to the device, which costs around 10 rupees. The company has received order for 25,000 such strips. Similarly another device showcased enables real time diagnosis of malaria, dengue and typhoid. The Limb Immobilisation ensures that after an accident, the<br/><br/>diagnosis of the injuries is done without much disturbance to the patient. BIRAC has supported nearly 300 start-ups and Small and Medium Entreprises and 150 young entrepreneurs for innovation, research and product development.<br/><br/>The green panel directed the UP government and Jal Nigam to take a clear stand on the quality of ground water. The matter has now been listed for next hearing on February 16.<br/>
