India's latest communication satellite GSAT-15 to be launched tomorrow

India's latest communication satellite GSAT-15 will be launched early in the morning on Wednesday using the launch vehicle Ariane-5 from Kourou in French Guiana. <br/><br/>The satellite will have 24 transponders in the Ku band to meet the needs of broadcasting sector and VSAT-based broadband services. <br/><br/>It also has the third GAGAN payload to provide satellite based navigation services. The satellite with 3164 kg weight at lift-off will have 12 years of operational life. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports, the Diwali-day launch of the Indian Space Research Organization-ISRO has significance for India's television broadcast and Global Positioning System-GPS based navigation services. <br/><br/>The satellite GSAT-15 has prized transponders that are in huge demand in the country, in Ku band. <br/><br/>The Public Relations Director of ISRO Deviprasad Karnik told AIR News, the satellite would eventually take over the transponder capacity of the two ageing satellites, Insat-3A and 4B, which are nearing the completion of their operational period. <br/><br/>The GAGAN payload on GSAT-15 is the third in the navigation system-series that help refine the data being provided by GPS satellites to get accurate data.
