The government today made it clear that it has been engaging with coalition groups to ensure that India's key interests are protected at the WTO. They include methodology for cutting tariffs on agricultural and industrial goods, reducing domestic subsidies in agriculture and phasing them out in export sectors. The commerce and industry minister Mr Anand Sharma in response to a call attention motion by Mr Moinul Hassan and others informed the Rajya Sabha that contours of flexibilities including exemptions from tarrif cuts on both agricultural and industrial goods are also being addressed while holding talks with them. Mr Anand Sharma said that the discussions at the senior officials level on technical requirements have resumed at the 7th Ministerial meeting held at Geneva which concluded on 3rd of this month focused on multilateral trading system and the current global economic environment. He said India is a strong protagonist of the multi lateral trading system and has maintained that conclusion of Doha Round is in New Delhi's interest. Mr Anand Sharma said that the main negotiating issues and the key elements from Indian perspective in the Doha round are to honour the development dimension, protecting the interests of poor farmers and industry and seeking greater market opportunities for them. The Minister gave the details of the initiative for reenergizing the ongoing discussion of Doha round and said that the informal Ministerial was held in this backdrop as world leaders at international meetings had expressed their keen desire for early conclusion of Doha round<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>
