Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said India's growth drivers are intact and the Centre is committed to policy reforms. Addressing a seminar on Adapting Tax System and International Tax Rules to the New Global Environment in New Delhi today, Mr Mukherjee admitted that there is some slowdown in industrial growth, partly due to the base effect from the previous year but said the growth drivers of the Indian economy remained intact. He said the government is expecting 9 to 9.5 per cent growth rate of economy during the 12th Five-Year Plan, starting April, 2012.The Minister said the government is committed to tax reforms and has already introduced the constitutional amendment Bill on Goods and Services Tax, GST, in the Parliament early this year. He said the Direct Tax Code, DTC, is scheduled to become effective from 1st of April next year. Lauding the India's economy, the Secretary General of Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, OECD, Mr Angel Gurria said that it is growing at triple rate in comparison with other nations of the OECD. He said the time has come to review the exemptions and tax holiday and give these incentives only when justified.
