India continue to keep their second position in the on-going 19th Commonwealth Games.When reports last came in on the 5th day of competitions today, the hosts were having a haul of 19 gold, 13 Silver and 11 bronze medals.Australia are holding on to their top spot, with a substantial lead over second placed India and England, who are in the third position. The Aussies have tally 40 gold, 21 Silver and 18 bronze.Indian archers, shooters and wrestlers continued their winning spree by grabbing 5 more gold today. Ace shooters Gagan Narang and Imran Hasan Khan won gold in the Men's 50 metres rifle-3 positioning pairs creating a new Games record.Gagan Narang has proved that he is in excellent form. He has performed the feat of achieving a hatrick by bagging three golds in the on-going Games.Narang had earlier won gold medals in the 10 metre air-rifle pairs and individual events. Vijay Kumar won gold for India in the 25 metre rapid fire pistol shooting with a new Games record. Gurpreet Singh bagged the Bronze in the same event.The first gold of the day for India was bagged by women Archers Dola Banerjee, Deepika Kumari and Bombayala Devi in the recurve team category. The Women Archers have created history for India, as theirs is the first medal in Archery which has been included in the games after a gap of 28 years.The Indian trio defeated England 207-206. Earlier, they had dumped Malaysia in the semifinals. Commenting on the Indian team's succes, Dola Bannerjee said:In Wrestling, India have continued with their outstanding performance. The women grapplers bagged 2 gold and a silver medal today in freestyle wrestling. Anita won a gold in 67 kg category by defeating Canada's Buydens.While Alka Tomar brought laurels for the country in 59kg category by beating Canada's Tonya Verbeek who had won the gold in the previous games. Babita Kumari also clinched a silver medal in the 51kg category.Mansher Singh and Manavjeet Sandhu won a silver medal for the country in the men's trap pair shooting.In Archery, the Men's recurve team won Bronze today. The team comprising of Rahul Banerjee, Tarundeep Roy and Jayant Talukdar defeated England 221-218.In Tennis, India's Somdev Devvarman has entered the Men's Singles final. Somdev easily beat Mat Ebden of Australia. The Indian won the first set 6-3 and quickly wrapped up the second set 6-1. In women's singles, Sania Mirza moved into the final defeating Australia's Olivia Rogowska in three sets 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.In the Men's doubles semifinal event, Indian duo of Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna lost to England's R.D. Hutchins and Skupsi 6-3, 3-6, 4-6. The famed duo of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi also made their exit in the Men's Doubles. The pair lost in straight sets 2-6, 2-6 to their Australian rivals.In women hockey, India defeated Trinidad and Tobbago by 7-nil. South Africa held defending champion Australia to a 1-1 draw today and moved to the top of Pool A.Tonight, India's Chandrakant Mali will be hunting for gold in men's 85 kilogram category in weightlifting.In Boxing too, Vijender Singh in 75 kg category and Paramjit Samota in 91 kg will be figuring today.The first medals of Badminton and Table-Tennis events will also be decided today. India are also assured of one medal in Badminton as the Indian team are already in the final of the Mixed team event. They were to meet Malaysia.Meanwhile, India's Ashish Kumar has added to India's kitty another Silver. He won the medal in artistic gymnastics.
