India’s gift to Pakistan on New Year

India has announced that it will release 31 Pakistani fishermen whose nationality has been confirmed by the Pakistan authorities. A statement issued by the Foreign Office said these fishermen will be repatriated to Pakistan via Attari tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Marine Security Agency has released nine fishermen, who were detained for straying in international waters. The move of the agency came as a surprise to the fishermen as they were detained three days ago. The release of these fishermen comes in the wake of Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani deciding to release 100 out of the 631 Indian fishermen languishing in the Pakistani jails since December 26, 2008.
