India's Divij Sharan and his partner Artem Sitak progress to 2nd round of Australian Open

India's Divij Sharan and his New Zealand partner Artem Sitak today progressed to the second round of the Australian Open men's doubles event at Melbourne. Sharan and Sitak got the better of the Portuguese-Spanish duo of Pablo Carreno Busta and Joao Sousa 6-4, 7-5 in a thrilling one hour 28-minute encounter.

The duo will next face the winner of the first-round match between 10th seeds Mate Pavio-Bruno Soares and Ben Molachlan and Luke Bambridge. In Men's singles event, defending champion Novak Djokovic made short work of Japanese wildcard Tatsuma Ito as he progressed to the Australian Open third round today.
The 32-year-old, chasing a 17th Grand Slam and eighth Australian Open, won 6-1 6-4 6-2 in one hour and 35 minutes.
Djokovic will now face Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka after he knocked out British number one Dan Evans in straight sets.
Sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas is also into the last 32 after opponent Philipp Kohlschreiber withdrew injured.
Among the other men playing second-round matches today are 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer, Italian seeds Fabio Fognini and Matteo Berrettini, and Spanish ninth seed Roberto Bautista Agut.
