Two-time champions Ghana began their FIFA Under-17 World Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Colombia in a Group A match in New Delhi on Friday. In the tournament opener at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Sadiq Ibrahim scored the all-important goal in the 39th minute. Ghana earned three points from the win. In the opening Group B match at the D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, New Zealand came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Turkey. Striker Ahmed Kutucu gave the lead for Turkey in the 18th minute, which was neutralised by Kiwi captain Max Mata in the 58th minute. The Group A match between India and the United States is now underway in New Delhi. India are playing in a World Cup fixture for the first time, having qualified as the hosts. When reports last came in, US were leading 1-0.At Navi Mumbai, the second Group B encounter between Paraguay and Mali is now in progress.
