Indians attacked in Congo after murder of Congolese youth in Delhi: MEA

External Affairs Ministry has said, some Indians have been injured and some shops of Indians attacked in Congo in a possible reaction to Congolese student's murder in Delhi. <br/><br/>Talking to media in New Delhi, Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said Indian Embassy in Congo is in touch with local authorities and things have calmed down. He assured that India will ensure full safety to the thousands of African students who continue to benefit from the Indian education system. He said India's relations with Congo go back many years.<br/><br/>India today said it would be unfortunate if few isolated incidents are generalized to portray a climate of insecurity for African students in the country. Responding to a media query in New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, it is not right to characterize criminal acts as racially motivated. He said, it is clear from the CCTV footage of the attack that the bystanders who tried to protect the student were also thrashed by the same goons. <br/><br/>He said, thousands of African students continue to benefit from the Indian education system without any issue and New Delhi is committed to work closely with the African diplomatic and student communities to ensure their full safety and security. He said, External Affairs Minister is personally monitoring the matter and India remains open to brothers and sisters from Africa and there should be no cause for concern.
