Indian women hockey team ended up losing the Hawke's Bay Cup quarterfinal 1-3 to Japan in Hastings, New Zealand. Japan scored their first goal through a penalty corner and added two more goals in the next two minutes to leave India gasping 0-3. Later, Indian side earned their first penalty corner in the 14th minute and Rani successfully converted it to reduce the gap. The game went into half time with Japan leading 3-1.India came out of half time stronger but missed the goal twice. Deflection by Poonam missed the target, while captain Deepika also missed a chance in the quarter. India next play Canada in the classification game on Saturday. Australia will take on Ireland and New Zealand will take on Korea in the other quarterfinals.
