Indian women hockey team lose Hawke's Bay Cup quarters 1-3 to Japan

The Indian Women's Hockey team's hopes of winning the Hawke's Bay Cup at Hastings in New Zealand, ahead of the forthcoming Rio Olympics, came to an end yesterday. They lost the quarterfinals to Japan, 1-3. Japan scored three goals in quick succession in the opening quarter leaving the Indian eves gasping. They, however, converted a penalty corner to reduce the gap. In the second half, India made few more shy attempts at goal but as the final whistle blew the scoreline remained 3-1 in Japan's favour. India will next play Canada tomorrow in 5th to 8th classification game. Over in Malaysia, in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, after a winning start against Japan, Indian Men's team got drubbed by world champions Australia 1-5 at Ipoh yesterday. India will take on Canada in their next game on Sunday.
