Indian woman boxer Mary Kom storms into quarterfinals

In Women’s Boxing, India’s M. C. Mary Kom stormed into the quarterfinals on Sunday when she beat Karolina Michalczuk of Poland 19-14 in the Women’s Fly weight 51 kg category.

She will face Maroua Rahali of Tunisia in the Quarterfinals today. MC Mary Kom is a five-time world champion and the lone Indian woman boxer in the fray at the London Olympics.

29-year-old Mary Kom was the face of International Boxing Association's campaign for inclusion of women's boxing in the Olympics.

The ever-popular men’s Boxing events are joined on the Olympic programme by women’s events for the first time. Thirty-six female boxers from 23 different nations are fighting across three weight divisions in the London Olympics for the first time.
