Indian Wells: Flavia Pennetta beats Agnieszka Radwanska

Italy's Flavia Pennetta on Monday captured the biggest title of her career, as she stunned second seed Agnieszka Radwanska to win the Indian Wells Open Tennis tournament at California. In the Women's Singles finals on Monday morning, ailing Radwanska lost to twentieth seed Pennetta, in straight sets, 2-6, 1-6. Radwanska went into the match as a favourite, but was unable to give her 100 per cent, because of a knee injury that severely restricted her movement. Pennetta, a known name in the Doubles, had tumbled in the Singles world rankings and had contemplated retiring last year. But today, as Radwanska struggled, Pennetta grabbed the perfect opportunity to bag one of the biggest events outside the four grand slams. World Number Two Novak Djokovic today lifted the Men's Singles trophy, beating Swiss Roger Federer, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. Federer still leads 17-16 to Djokovic, having beaten the Serb in three sets in the semifinals at Dubai two weeks ago. With today's result, Djokovic will remain No. 2 in the world, while Federer will rise three spots to No. 5 in the upcoming ATP Tour rankings.
