India's Sivalingam Sathish Kumar and Ragala Venkat Rahul have qualified for next year's Commonwealth Games after winning a gold medal each in their respective weight divisions at the Commonwealth Senior (men & women) Weightlifting Championships in Gold Coast, Australia. Two Indian women weightlifters- S.Nirupama Devi and Nikeeta Kale- also claimed gold medals in 69 kilogram weight division of junior section. Rahul created several new records en-route to his standout total lift of 351 kilogram while competing in both senior and junior men's categories. He lifted 156kg in snatch and 195 kilograms in clean & jerk. 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Sathish Kumar lifted 148 kilograms in snatch and 172 kilogram in clean & jerk for a total effort of 320 kilograms in senior men's 77 kilograms. S.Nirupama Devi lifted a total weight of 178 kilograms while Nikeeta Kale lifted a total of 163 kilograms in the junior women's and youth girls 69 kilogram categories.
