Indian Triple jumper Mayookha Johny wins bronze medal in Asian Athletics Grand Prix

Triple Jumper Mayookha Johny has become the first Indian woman to breach the 14-metre mark as she bagged a bronze medal in the third and final leg of the Asian Athletics Grand Prix in Wujiang, China. Mayookha on Monday bettered her Kerala state-mate M A Prajusha's Commonwealth Games national record of 13.72 metres, producing a big leap of 14.02 metres to finish third in the event. The Gold and Silver went to China with Xie Limei recording 14.16 metres to win the coveted yellow metal and Li Yanmei clinching the silver with 14.05 metres. Mayookha leapt a national record 13.97 metres in her first try-out of the evening which ensured a medal for her. She lost rhythm in her next four attempts as each time she overstepped the take-off board. However, her sixth and final jump was perfect as she eclipsed the earlier national record quite brilliantly. In Men's 800 metre race event, Ghamanda Ram won the silver while compatriot Sajeesh Joseph garnered the bronze medal. In Women's discus throw, Seema Antil made it to the podium for the third successive time with yet another bronze medal.
