Indian Super League's 4th season kicks off in Kochi

In football, fourth season of the revamped Indian Super League (ISL kicks off in Kochi today with more teams and home-grown players. The ISL will now be a four-month drill double the length of the previous three editions. The tournament comes after the euphoria generated by the country's maiden FIFA event. There will be 10 teams for the first time in the league's history, with Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC entering the fray. Clubs will be allowed to field five foreign players, as opposed to six in previous seasons. The opening match of ISL will be played between defending champions ATK and Kerala Blasters, later this evening. ISL is considered as the country's top-tier league. The winner of the League will get a direct spot in the AFC Cup which is Asia's equivalent of Europe's Europa League.The final is slated for March 17 in Kolkata.
