Indian shooters continue medal-winning spree at ISSF Junior World Cup

On the second day of the ISSF Junior World Cup at Gabala, Azerbaijan, today, the Indian junior shooting squad bagged a gold, two silver and three bronze medals. India who won seven medals, including three golds on Day One, now lie second behind Russia in the medal tally with an overall haul of 13 medals. India's only gold medal of the day came in the junior women's 10 metre Air Pistol team event. Yashaswini Singh Deswal, Malaika Goel and Harshada Nithave combined for a total score of 1122 to finish way ahead of second-placed Turkey's score of 1104. Uzbekistan won the Bronze shooting a total of 1086. One of the two Silvers came in the Junior Men's 10 metre Air Pistol event when the trio of Gaurav Rana, Hemendra Kushwah and Saurabh Chaudhary came second. Then Anmol won an individual silver in the event, when he finished behind gold-medallist Artem Chernousov of Russia in the final. Two Indians, Gaayathri Nithyanadam and Dilreen Gill, had qualified for the finals of thethe junior women's 50 metre Rifle 3 Positions event. Gaayathri settled for an individual Bronze, behind Nikola Foistova of the Czech Republic who won Gold and Olga Efimova of Russia who won Silver. Earlier, Gaayathri had won the team bronze in the event along with Sonika and Aditi Singh. Another bronze came India's way when the junior men's skeet team comprising of Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, Sukhbir Singh Harika and Hamza Sheikh, finished behind the Russian Team who won Gold and the Chinese Team which won the Silver.
