On the eighth Day of the Commonwealth Games, India still hopes for a Gold to equal the best ever 2002 Manchester Games performance as all four medals won so far today were bronze. The first came in shooting, as Tejaswini Sawant and Meena Kumari won bronze in women's 50 meter Rifle Prone pairs event with 1168 points. Scotland won gold while England earned the Silver. Both Scotland and England were at 1169 points but Scotish duo clinched the top spot hitting the Bull's eye.Tejaswini Sawant said she had hoped to win more than a bronze in the competion. Meenakumari also said she was not happy with the bronze. In boxing, Seven Indian pugilists had reached the semi-finals in men's boxing events but three have lost their bouts and had to settle for bronze medals. These include Amandeep Singh in Light Fly 46-49 kilogram category, Jai Bhagwan in Light 60 kilogram category and Dilbagh Singh in Welter 69 kilogram. In skeet pairs Mairaj Ahmad Khan and P Allan Danials are competing to add another medal to India's already rich medal haul in shooting. In Badminton Women's Singles, India's Saina Nehwal and Aditi Mutatkar have advanced to last 8. India also lost its Rugby sevens match against Wales by 7-53. With an excellant performance yesterday, India had regained the second spot from England on the medals tally with an impressive haul of five gold, five Silver and five Bronze medals. With three more bronze today India's overall medal tally has gone up to to 29 Gold, 22 Silver and 25 Bronze, just one gold short of its best performance at the 2002 Manchester Games. Australia are heading the medal table with a total haul of 61 gold, 39 silver and 37 Bronze. England has 26 gold,22 Silver and 24 bronze. In Athletics, Krishna Poonia, Harwant Kaur and Seema Antil are competing in Women’s Discus Throw final event. Our correspondent reports, that in 800 meters women's final race, Tintu Luka is a medal hope for the country. In weightlifting, only one gold will be decided today, in men's 105 plus Kilogram weight category and Sarabjit will carry the Indian hopes in this event. Indian players will also be seen in action in Table-tennis and Squash. In Hockey final classification matches will be played in women's category and Indian team will face Canada to decide the fifth-sixth position. Meanwhile, the New Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games has been hit by a doping controversy in the same 100 metre Women's event that earlier saw the disqualification of Australia's Sally Pearson who was stripped off her medal for a false start.A Nigerian gold medalist of women's 100 meters was tested positive in dope Examination. In the dope test mehtyle hexalimine stimulate was found. Addressing the customary press conference at Main Press Centre, the President of the Games Federation Mr Michael Fennel said the athlete tested positive has requested for ‘B’ sample test and the hearing will be held later today. Mr. Fennel said one thousand five hundred 950 dope tests have been conducted so far. He reiterated that the Federation is committed towards a clean game and clean athletes. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria, President Solomon Ogba told a website that, the Nigerian athlete took medication for her toothache and they strongly suspect that it was the reason that led to her failed drug test.The Organizing Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi today said Big video Screens will be put up during road events including marathon and cycling events along with the route.
