Indian sailor Sunil James released from Togo jail

Indian sailor Sunil James has been released from Togo jail. External Affairs Ministry sources said, he is expected to reach India by tomorrow. He had been languishing in jail in the west African country since July 16 on the charges of aiding pirates who had attacked and looted his Marshall Islands-flagged MT Ocean Centurion.

India was in touch with Togo authorities to secure on compassionate ground the release of the sailor. Indian officials from Accra had met the sailor recently and had been pursuing the case of his release with the authorities there.
