Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today announced a cash award of 13 lakh rupees for each of the 10 women cricketers employed with his department for their inspiring show at the recently concluded World Cup. Indian women's team had ended runners-up at the ICC event, narrowly losing the title clash to hosts England.The Railway Minister made the announcement at a felicitation function for the cricketers in New Delhi. Recognising her performance, the Ministry of Railways also promoted Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj to the post of OSD (Sports) in Hyderabad-headquartered South Central Railway. Earlier in the day, the Sports Minister Vijay Goel felicitated the Indian women's cricket team in New Delhi for its spectacular performance in the ICC World Cup. He said the women cricket team's performance will inspire the country's youth to take up sports as a career option.Yesterday, the Indian team was given a rousing reception in Mumbai on its return from London.
