Indian Panorma section inaugurated at IFFI

The Indian Panorma, was inaugurated on Thursday at the ongoing International Film Festival of India, in Goa. Many films including ‘Milan’ – a classic from Tagore and three movies on tourism under Incredible India campaign were screened. Homages were also paid to Assamee Singer- Bhupen Hazarika, Richard Leacock and Mani Kaul. Under the Soccer in India package, a Korean film ‘A Barefoot Dream’ was screened at an open air theatre.

‘Milan’, a film based on Ravindra Nath Tagore’s Novel-‘Nauka Dubi’, was a debut film by Nitin Bose at Bombay Talkies way back in 1946. The legendry actor Dilip Kumar, Meera Mishra, Pahadi Sanyal and Ranjana had played their role in this movie of the Black and White era.

Three short films screened included Chadar-portraying freezed Zanskar river in Leh metamorphosed into a ‘CHADAR’ meaning a white sheet during minus 35 degrees temperature.

Homage was paid to filmmaker Mani Kaul by screening his documentary on Hindustani classical music- Dhrupad – through images and poetry. Richard Leacock, Director of Photography of late 40’s film Louisiana Story was also remembered. A film on legendry singer Bhupen Hazarika – Ek Pal- directed by Kalpana Lazmi was also showcased paying homage to him.
