Directors of Films from Indian Panorama today felt that to encourage good cinema, efforts should be made to take it beyond festival. Director of Malyalam film ‘Majadikuru’ Anjali Menon, Directors of film ‘Cotton for My Shroud’, Nandan Saxena & Kavita Bahl, and Director of Bengali film ‘Birds Of Passage’, Ashim Paul interacted with media on the sidelines of 43rd International Film Festival of India in Panaji, Goa today. AIR correspondent reports that as long as a film touches masses it is main stream cinema. A good film is a good film; it is distributers and buyers who divide it in to main stream and other kind of cinema. This was prominently felt by these directors. Nandan Saxena & Kavita Bahl said their film was made in five years based on real characters. ‘Cotton for My Shroud’ a non-feature film investigates what is wrong with agriculture in India. Since 1995, hundreds of Indian farmers have committed suicide; most of them are cotton farmers from Vidarbha, region in Maharashtra. This film tries to understand what is driving cotton farmers to despair. During the day well-known poet and film maker Muzaffar Ali also interacted He said Cinema is a sacred medium and film maker must take it to the highest level of communication. Film making is a journey through which enrichment is achieved, he added.
