Indian Oil reports tank fire accident at Tondiarpet POL Terminal in Chennai, One worker killed

Indian Oil reported a tank fire accident at its Tondiarpet Petroleum, Oils and Lubricants (POL) Terminal in Chennai, today evening. The incident occurred during a planned maintenance activity of an Ethanol storage tank managed by a contractor. The fire was contained and put off immediately in a swift action by the internal fire fighting system. Unfortunately, two contract labourers sustained burn injuries while combating fire in which one labourer, Mr. Perumal, lost his life at the site due to burn injuries. The other labourer was rushed to hospital for treatment.<br />'' <br />''<span style="color: #222222;">A team of experts from Head Office, Mumbai and regional office in Chennai rushed to site to assist the investigation team to determine the root cause of the incident. IOC assured that all possible measures will be taken to ensure complete safety of man and machine before the resumption of normal operations. POL supplies have been made from alternative locations to ensure product availability into the city of Chennai.</span><br />
