Indian Navy is successful in compacting Somalian pirates during the last two years, said Chief of Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba. Talking to media on board INS Sunayna at Kochi, Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba also informed that 120 pirates have been arrested by India and are in jail. <br/><br/>During the last two years, not even a single hijacking of ships by the Somalian pirates have been reported mainly due to the combined efforts of navies including Indian Navy. Talking to media, Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba also informed that 300 ships have been escorted by Indian Navy and none have been attacked by pirates. <br/><br/> Our coastal surveillance and security system is in place with state of art radar, satellites and coordinated efforts of intelligence agencies. He also informed that Indian Navy is committed for indigenisation in construction of ships and submarines. <br/><br/>At present 46 ships and submarines are under construction in various ship yards in the country. Admiral Lanba also informed that, aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, the largest ship being build in India, is expected to be commissioned in December 2018.
