Indian Navy launches country's latest destroyer, the Mormugao

The Indian Navy today launched country's latest destroyer, the Mormugao, at Mumbai's Mazagon Docks. <br/>It is the second ship of Project- 15B, indigenously designed and highly successful guided Missile Destroyers. <br/> <br/>The ship will be inducted into the Navy two years later. In the last 6 years, the Indian Navy has inducted 8 frontline warships and has launched 5 warships which are in the process of being constructed. <br/><br/>AIR Mumbai Correspondent reports, an indigenously built warship equipped with a range of high-tech missiles Murmugao was launched at the Mazagaon Dock Ship Builders Limited in Mumbai Saturday afternoon. <br/><br/>The vessel with a displacement of 7,300 tonne belongs to Visakhapatnam class of ships being constructed under Project 15B.<br/><br/> Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff has said that stealth destroyer can be compared with the best vessels in the world.<br/><br/>To highlight the feature, the advance vessel spans 163 metres in length and is powered by 4 Ukrainian gas turbine engines to achieve speeds in excess of 30 knots, approximately 56 km per hour.<br/> <br/>With a complement of 50 officers and 250 sailors, the Project 15B destroyer is designed to operate 4,000 nautical miles at sea.
