The Indian national flags seen fluttering atop the Red fort, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Supreme Court and other important government buildings are all cut and stitched by Karnataka Khadi Gramudyog Samyuktha Sangh in Bengeri and Garag Seva Sangh near Hubli in North Karnataka. Khadi and Village Industries Commission of Central Government support these production units by way of incentives and marketing. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that these Centres fulfill the parameters set by the Bureau of Indian Standards and flags are prepared as per the Flag Code of India. The freedom fighters had started these Khadi Centres near Hubli during 1950s and 60s. They are major suppliers of national flags in the country. B S Hiremath, the Secretary of Khadi Gramudyog Samyuktha Sangh informs that last year they produced 35000 khadi flags in nine different sizes, earning a turnover of one crore fifty lakh rupees. <br/><br/>The Chairman of Garag Seva Sangh Nagappa Teralapur informs that their unit supplied one crore 60 lakh rupees worth national flags to Khadi and Village Industries during 2015-16. This year till August 10th the Sangh has supplied flags worth 70 lakh rupees. Around 1300 weavers are employed in both the centres.
