Indian men thrash Turkmenistan in Chess Olympiad

On a day of mixed fortunes, Indian men thrashed Turkmenistan 3-1 but the women's team suffered a 0.5-3.5 defeat to Russia One, in the 8th Round of the 39th Chess Olympiad at Khanty Mansiyk in Russia yesterday.Krishnan Sasikiran scored a fine victory over Amanov Mesgen on the top board to pave the way for India's victory, before P Harikrishna proved too strong for Meylis Annaberdiev on the second board. G N Gopal and B Adhiban drew on the last two boards.For the Indian women team it was the second loss in the event, the first coming against Bulgaria.D Harika was outdone by Natalia Kosintseva on the top board, Tania Sachdev was outplayed by Nadezhda on the second, while S Meenakshi, on the fourth board, proved no match for an in-form Alisa Galliamova.In the women's section, India slipped to joint fourth after losing to Russia One by a huge margin.
