Indian Judiciary will soon become paperless: Kiren Rijiju

Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju has said that the Indian Judiciary will soon become paperless. Delivering his inaugural address at the 1st Conference of Central Government Counsels of Eastern States of India at Bhubaneswar in Odisha on 4th March 2023, the Minister said that the phase-III of E-court project has already begun with the aim to digitise the justice delivery mechanism.<br />''  <br />'' He said, this will put paid to the demands for setting up of separate benches of High Courts which keep coming up from different parts of the country. He emphasised the fact that from out of about four crore ninety lakh pending cases in the courts the lion's share is being handled by the lower courts in the country. The Minister called for special attention to be paid to the challenges being faced by them. Mr Rijiju also stressed upon the need to ensure ease of justice by introducing the respective mother tongues in the local courts and even in the High Courts.<br />''  <br />'' AIR Correspondent reports that informing the gathering that the government has already repealed 1486 redundant laws the Law Minister disclosed that another 65 Acts are proposed to be repealed in the current Budget session of Parliament itself. Taking a dig at those who are trying to malign Indian democracy including the Indian judiciary, Mr Rijiju said the county's judiciary will never play the role of an Opposition party to serve the ulterior motives of such people. Stating the Government's commitment to uphold the Rule of Law, the Mnister hailed the wisdom of Indian judges, in particular and of the Indian judiciary in general. Judge of Supreme Court justice P V Nagarathna, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court  Dr justice S Muralidharan also spoke on the occasion which was attended by a host of other dignitaries and legal luminaries.
