Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth has said that India should take a lead role in identifying and developing standards to improve competitiveness of the industry and export prospects in international market.Addressing a conclave on the role of standards in international trade in New Delhi on Wednesday, he called for appropriate legislation to provide an instrument to notify standards.He observed that India does not have a standard driven culture. Mr Seth said, the manufacturing sector has been accustomed to developing in an environment where standards have been lax.
