Indian Grandmaster and former world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta defeated Pavel Kotsur of Kazakhstan in the sixth round of the Dubai Open Chess Championship to stay in the race for the title. With five points from six rounds, Abhijeet Gupta is now tied up for the second place with Swiss Grandmaster Sebastian Bogner. French Grandmaster Romain Edouard has maintained his lead with 5 and a half points. He beat Vladimir Akopian of Armenia in the 6th round. Three more rounds are left in the $50,000 Dubai Chess Open tournament.
