UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has said that the Indian government has been taking steps to ensure stability, prevent violence and protect human rights in Jammu and Kashmir. Replying to questions at his year-end conference at the UN headquarters in New York, Ban Ki Moon said that he is not aware about the specific cases of torture in Indian jails. The question was in reference to Wiki leaks on the issue. New Delhi has already reacted sharply to the reported Red Cross allegations saying that there are effective mechanisms in a democratic country like India to deal with any aberrations. External Affairs Ministry spokesman said yesterday that whenever an aberration occurs it is promptly and firmly dealt with in an effective and transparent manner.
