Indian fishermen held in Iran released

As many as 49 Indian fishermen released by Iranian authorities arrived in Chennai early this morning via Dubai. They were detained by Iranian Coast Guard on 1st of December last year on charges of poaching and trespassing into their territorial waters. <br/><br/>They were employed by a firm based in Sharjah. Indian mission ensured their release and send them back home by Air India flight. They include 44 people from Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu and five from Gujarat. The state commissioner for fisheries Beela Rajesh received the fishermen at the airport and have made arrangements for their journey back home. The Gujarat fishermen are to be sent to their native places by connecting flights.

Indian fishermen held in Iran released

Iranian authorities have released 49 Indian fishermen detained by them for allegedly entering into their territorial waters while fishing in Arabian Sea. Sources said, the released fishermen will arrive in Chennai today by an Air India flight from Dubai. <br/><br/>They belong to Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. The fishermen have been released due to efforts of the Centre and the two State governments.
