Indian envoy lauds corporate & expat role in aiding Indian workers in Saudi get legal status

The Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Hamid Ali Rao has said that more than one million expatriate Indians have got their legal status corrected in the Kingdom by availing of the concessions granted by Saudi authorities. Talking to AIR in Dubai, Mr. Rao lauded the role played by the Indian community volunteers and the corporate organizations for their assistance in reaching out to the expatriate Indians who have either changed their sponsors or job categories during the massive exercise. He said that the very fact that the Indian workers in Saudi Arabia have gone up despite Nitaqat or the legal correction of the status is a reflection of the faith and trust on the Indian workers in the kingdom. The Indian Ambassador would be meeting Saudi Minister of Labour in Riyadh today.The deadline by the Saudi Government for the expatriates to get their legal status corrected or exit the Kingdom without paying fines or without a ban on return expires on November 3rd.The Saudi Government has warned that the deadline will not be extended again and stiff penalties will be imposed on the violators. The Kingdom has so far deported more than 800,000 illegal expatriate workers. Saudi Interior and Labour Ministries are now sending text messages to citizens and companies warning them against hiring illegal expats. Special teams have been formed to inspect work places to check on illegal expatriate workers after the November 3 amnesty deadline.
