Indian embassy in UAE honours skilled Indian workers

In a novel initiative to reach out to hundreds of thousands of blue collar workers residing in the United Arab Emirates, the Indian embassy last evening honoured thirty skilled workers for their commendable work in their respective fields.

The Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Mr. Talmiz Ahmad speaking on the occasion said this is the least we can do to lacs of people who have left their homes in trying circumstances and done us proud in the UAE. Mr. Ahmad said that nearly twenty lakh Indian nationals reside in the UAE, with over 65% of them falling in the blue-collar category.

AIR correspondent D. Ojha reports from Dubai that large number of people were present in the ceremony but real heroes on the occasion were those Indian workers who during their stay here away from the families have contributed to Indian economy apart from strengthening people to people contact between India and UAE. A visibly moved worker Manjit Singh who hails from Punjab told AIR that he never expected such a high-profile recognition.

All 30 Indian workers received their certificates and prizes from Indian Ambassador Talmiz Ahmad who praising their contribution said these people made us proud in the UAE.
