President Pranab Mukherjee has said that Indian educational institutes do not lack in merit and can be among the best in the world. He congratulated the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore for figuring in the top ten institutions in the 'Best Small Universities' category of the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings 2017.<br/> <br/>In the recently released Times Higher Education Rankings, the Indian Institute of Science or IISc, Bangalore as famously known has made to the list of Top 10 Universities of the World. The Times Higher Education or THE Rankings for the year 2017 were released and for the first time an Indian University has made the cut in the Top 10 list. <br/><br/>Though the honour is only in the category of small universities, it is an honour none the less to be parried alongside the very best in the world. IISc ranks at number 8 in the Top 10 Small Universities of the World. The Rankings are famous around the world. The International Ranking system correlates data from around the world and compares thousands of Universities on various parameters of excellence, quality of curriculum, international exposure and so on. <br/><br/>IISc has ranked in the list of Top Universities for some time but this year it has become one amongst the elite Top 10. The category is of small Universities which simply refer to Universities that have less than 5000 students. The ranking catapults IISc further up the charts within the domestic circuit.
