Indian couple in Norway charged with gross, repeated maltreatment of their son

Prosecutors in Norway have slapped criminal charges against the Indian Couple facing child abuse case.

The charges include “gross or repeated maltreatment” and threats, violence and other wrongs.

The couple — Chandrasekhar Vallabhaneni, a software professional from Andhra Pradesh, and his wife Anupama — have been remanded in custody with the Oslo police saying there is reason to fear that they will evade prosecution by returning to India.

The prosecution has proposed a minimum sentence of one year and three months and the judgement will be given in Oslo District Court on Monday.

Chandrasekhar's nephew Sailender said the couple's seven-year-old son was found wetting his pants in the school bus and the father reportedly “threatened” the child that he would be sent back to India if he repeated that again.

A Consular Officer of the Indian Mission in Oslo sought consular access and met Chandrasekhar and explained the situation to him.

He assured them that the Indian mission will continue to keep in touch with the lawyer and stands ready to assist.
