India’s Honorary Consul General to Liberia in West Africa Upjit Singh Sachdeva has been conferred with the “Knight Grand Commander” Award. He was coferred with the award during Liberia's 164th Indepence Day celebrations last Tuesday in northern city of Voinjama. He has become first Indian to receive the highest award in Liberia. Jalandhar born Upjit Singh Sachdeva in a communication to our Jalandhar Correspondent Rajesh Bali that the award was presented to him by the Liberian President Ms Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for his contribution to the cause of the socio-economic development, recovery and reconstruction of Liberia after civil war ravaged the entire nation. He had been honoured with Parvasi Bhartiya Award in January this year by the President Mrs Pratibha Devi Singh Patil for enhancing India's image globally.
